Ramblings

I have totally missed blogging. its only taken me like 4 months to get back into it, but hey at least I'm back. Love, love, love, the beautiful snow that is covering our world here in Wenatchee. So peaceful and heavenly. I keep feeling like everything is going to be cancelled because growing up on the "westside" whenever there was 1 inch of snow EVERYTHING was cancelled. So instictively I keep thinking that everything is going to stop....NOPE. Everything continues on as normal. No biggy really.

Dustin has been out of town for 10 days now!!! Yes, let me repeat....10 days. I am such a wimp I know....but Dustin and I have way too much fun together and being a stay at home mom in the middle of a winter storm without my husband is less than steller. oh well, the kids and i made the best of it and actually had a lot of fun together. This week we spent lots of time outside shoveling snow(thanks to some guy in a tractor with a snow plow who saw me working so hard came to my rescue and plowed the rest of my driveway) Thank you stranger....what a nice guy. We attempted a snowman (snow was too dry and cold....16 degrees to be exact) We built lots of fires and drank hot chocolate. We played Mario Bros. and had tea parties. We went to Mama and papa's and went sledding, played with the dogs and dalans fave...took a sauna and then jumped in the snow ; ) All in all a really great week together with my darling kids in a beautiful blanket of snow.

This is the time of year that can be a bit tricky with running. yes, i'm totally craving my outdoor runs. I need to find my "yak tracks" (shoe chains) and just get the heck out there, right? "Treadmilling it" is a good compromise but nothing beats a good run in the outdoors.

I'm excited for this new year we call 2012! I have a feeling its going to be GREAT! my goals for this year:

1. be a better cook. Now let me fill you in a bit. I don't have a natural passion for food. Maybe this is traced back to all of my stomach issues growing up but for some reason it doesn't come naturally. I want to try new recipes and preferably ones that are healthy. So this goal may be a bit lofty but hey I can at least start right?!!!! Thank goodness for Allrecipes.com ; )
2. Read the scriptures and actually comprehend what I just read.....This almost makes me laugh because every time I try and read the scriptures I find myself scanning the words instead of actually reading and comprehending what is written. I will wholeheartedly admit that I am, for the most part, completely clueless with the doctrines and stories of the scriptures. I don't know if it was my teenage years of being completely "boy crazy" and totally missing the boat on what was ever being said in sunday school or if it was the wording and type of dialect in the scriptures that completely threw me off. Either way....I still struggle with "getting it" The book of Mormon with pictures really helps me(can you tell I am a very visual person)....though I get distracted with the paintings and cool pics and maps that correlate with the chapters. It keeps me interested though and I love that BIG book. Though my goal of reading the scriptures is totally cliche....It runs way deeper for me....I love how it keeps me centered and "in- tune" when I at least try. So cheers to the "big red Book" and lots of lots of focusing.
3. Get my pictures organized....all 8,000 of them. YIKES! I am WAY behind(whitney hale you are my hero when it comes to organized pics : ) Anyhow, I am WAY behind. It is my inner dilemna of "do I make those online photo books" or "do I make regular photo books with the actual printed out pictures in each slot" Aghhhh...still can't decide. The photo books are thinner and super cool looking but I also love the idea of having the actual photo available and easily able to slide out and be copied if needed . Also, if the photo books get the pages ripped out its ova people. I want my photo books to be made for my kids to look at frequently if they wanted. See my dilemna's. I know I am totally overthinking this but whatever I do I want it to be consistent and uniform.

Wow, my goals for the year are pretty intense but I can at least start on them. I am not one to really make "new years resolutions" because I feel like waiting for a new year to improve myself seems silly. Why not change/improve TODAY! Either way it is still a goal that I will strive to accomplish each day this year.

Happy new year and may 2012 bring lots of LOVE in your life.

Hurray for you to get back into blogging! I loved reading this blog entry of yours Lore. :)

You have some good goals for the New Year!

You inspire me to try new recipes as well (I'm a picky eater and I have a really hard time with certain food. Some food makes me really sick and most food just doesn't look very appetizing to me). I also want to find some new recipes that are healthy and that Rainer and I both like.

I would recommend blurb.com for all your pictures.

First of all, it would be super expensive to develop 8,000 pictures and then buy several scrapbooks and supplies to put all those pictures together.

PLUS it would take LOADS of time to crop and paste or to put all those pictures into slots and label each picture by hand (I'm really big into labeling photos so that years from now you know who is in the picture, the date the picture was taken and where it was taken)

With blurb.com or with any photo books they are thinner, easier to put together, and you can print and/or buy several copies.

The old fashion way of doing a scrapbook takes a LOT of time and in the end you have one scrapbook.
In the same amount of time you can put a photo book together and then pay to have several copies made.

Most of all a photo book is less of a mess to put together. Back in the day when I did scrapbooks the old fashion way, it took FOR-EVER (Sandlot movie quote) to get all the scrapbook stuff on the table, sort out the pictures, paste them on pages, label them and put them in plastic sheet protectors. Then my mom would get mad at me for hogging the dinner table and tell me to put everything away (also a big pain and hassle)

So my suggestion would be to make a photo book and then buy like 4 copies (1 for you and Dustin as the official "family scrapbook." 1 for Dalan for when he is older, 1 for Macie for when she is older and 1 for Dalan and Macie to look at over and over again now...and no big deal if pages get torn or if that particular copy gets worn out)

Good luck with your goals!
Love ya!
Brittany (your cousin living in Germany) ;)

So glad you are back! I love reading your posts, and I admire you so much. I always feel inspired when I read what you have been up to. Your goals are great. I like it when I see people struggle with some of the same things I do, and I get to see how they deal with those issues. I should check into that BoM with pictures.

May I recommend OurBestBites.com? I have made countless recipes from that site and they are generally simple, with "normal" food, and always really tasty. They have a pretty good selection of healthy food, as well as some not so healthy stuff. If you want more healthy, skinnytaste.com has some gems. The recipes are geared toward people on weight watchers, but I am not on WW and I use it for good, healthy food.

10 days with no husband you are a rockstar mama!!! I wouldn't cook either if my husband knew what he was doing in the kitchen. Good luck with that and all your new year goals. We think about you guys ALL the time. We need a phone date soon.
